Grinding Stories Retold: Songs from Goa was published in 2021, it is the second volume to Grinding Stories: Songs from Goa (2018). I assisted Dr. Nina Sabnani in designing the layout of this book and its cover. The book documents poems sung by women in Goa. Visuals of Kaavi murals, places of worship, farms and Goan homes come together to add to this rich documentation of oral history from the region.
In this book, the challenge was to create a simple layout that would allow for both the poems and the different types of images - motifs, photographs and decorative elements- to come together seamlessly.
Working on this book virtually during the pandemic, seeing it be printed and published was an insightful experience.
